Less exotic but just as special

Sometimes even the best-laid plans have to change

Tessa and Alastair from Pentcaitland had their dream spring wedding ceremony booked in the tropical paradise of the Dominican Republic, with a big evening reception at Eskmills Venue for lots of friends and family organised for their return.  When the Covid-19 pandemic struck, they realised they were going to have to radically review their plans.

As global lockdowns dragged on, their only options would be to postpone or re-think.  Finally, with lots of advice on how it might work from Eskmills event designer and planner, Lianne, Tessa and Alastair decided they wanted to get married more than anything, so a beautiful event was arranged for just the couple and 17 close family and friends.  Determined to keep as much of their original vision as possible, the day ran just as it would for a much larger wedding, with the ceremony at 2pm and dancing until 10pm!  And why wouldn’t you?

Things kicked off with the bride arriving for the final make up touches and prosecco and nibbles in the bridal suite while the groom had some drinks at the bar with his best man.  Tessa looked stunning in a floor length strapless white gown, and the guests, even with masks on, looked like they’d enjoyed the opportunity to get dressed up for a change!  After the touching ceremony there were photos and drinks served with canapes including melt-in-the-mouth mini beef Wellingtons. The wedding breakfast was served at 5pm at socially distanced round tables, with each place setting marked with a boxed cupcake and 2020’s must have accessory – personalised hand sanitiser! The meal included a starter of hot smoked salmon and melba toast followed by chicken breast stuffed with sundried tomatoes, basil and mozzarella, with Hickory’s famous salted caramel sticky toffee pudding to finish things off.

The lovely couple had opted for a night photoshoot with sparklers – a gorgeous idea in the Eskmills cobbled courtyard and after some dancing and photobooth fun, there was an evening buffet with hot filled rolls.  Just one youngster was on the guest list and he got his very own menu.  Because in our book, little VIPS are just as important as big ones.

We’re delighted to say that Tess and Alastair loved their day as much as we enjoyed making it happen for them:

“Lianne at Eskmills worked with us tirelessly to ensure we had the best day possible and in November, with our closest friends and family around us, they delivered this to us perfectly.

Everything we required was handled without any issues by our MC Brian on our day, always at hand to ensure everything was absolutely perfect for us all.  The staff serving the beautifully prepared canapés and wedding meal were amazing, always at hand to help us all and keep all our guests with full glasses.

We cannot thank and commend you all so much for making our wedding day so special.  All our wedding party commented how beautiful Eskmills is and how much they had enjoyed their day with us so much.

Kind Regards

Alastair & Tessa McVie
